Using our list builder
Create highly targeted mailing lists using our List Builder tool.
This feature is currently in beta. Reach out to [email protected] to request access.

1. What is this feature?
The PostGrid List Builder is a powerful tool that allows you to generate targeted mailing lists for your direct mail campaigns. Instead of relying solely on your existing contact databases, this feature enables you to create new mailing lists by defining specific demographic and geographic criteria.
It is designed to help you reach new potential customers or businesses by providing access to a vast database of US consumers and businesses, allowing for highly granular targeting based on location, age, income, gender, and more.
2. How can I use it?
You can use the List Builder in two primary ways:
As part of the campaign flow
This is the most common use case for creating a new, targeted mailing list for a specific campaign.
- Start a New Campaign: From the Dashboard, click "Create" after clicking "All Campaigns".
- Select Collateral: Choose the type of mail piece you want to send (e.g., "Letters"). Click "Next".
- Choose Mailing List Source: On the "Mailing List" step, select the "Build a list" radio button.
- Name Your List: Provide a unique name for your new mailing list (e.g., "My Mailing List").
- Select Targeting Method:
- Choose between "US Consumers with ZIP and Radius" (to target individuals). The other targeting capabilities are coming soon.
- Define Location: Click "Continue To Filters".
- Click anywhere on the map or enter a specific address or ZIP code in the "Enter address or location" field (e.g., "1151 Broadway, New York, NY 10001").
- Adjust the "Radius (miles)" to define the geographic area around your chosen location (e.g., "0.1 miles").
- Apply Filters (Optional): Refine your list further by adding various demographic or psychographic filters:
- Limit The Number Of Contacts: Set a maximum number of contacts for your list (e.g., "5").
- Add Age Range Filter: Target contacts within specific age brackets.
- Add Income Range Filter: Filter by household income levels.
- Add Gender Filter: Specify male or female contacts (e.g., "Female").
- Add Education Level Filter: Target individuals based on their educational attainment.
- Add Occupations Filter: Select contacts by their profession.
- Add Number Of Children Filter: Target households with a certain number of children.
- Add Home Value Filter: Filter by the estimated value of the contacts' homes.
- Review Quote Summary: After applying filters, click "Next". The "Quote Summary" will display estimated contacts, price per contact, total cost, and credits applied. Sample contacts will also be shown.
- Purchase List: Click "Purchase List". PostGrid will build your list based on the criteria.
- Continue Campaign Creation: Once the list is built, click "Next" to proceed to the "Creative" and "Finish" steps of your campaign.
As a standalone tool
You can also access the List Builder directly from the navigation menu on the left by clicking "List Builder" under the "Tools" section. The steps for defining your list criteria are identical to those in the campaign flow. Once you build and purchase a list this way, you can easily reuse it in future campaigns by selecting "Select a previous list" on the "Mailing List" step of campaign creation.
3. How do I get billed for it?
PostGrid's List Builder operates on a credit-based system.
To use the List Builder, you will need to request credits from your Customer Success Manager or Account Executive. They will process your request, invoice you, or charge your payment method on file for the requested credits. These credits will then be added to your PostGrid account. As you build and purchase mailing lists, the appropriate number of credits will be deducted from your account based on the cost per contact and the total number of contacts in your generated list. The quote summary provides a clear breakdown of costs before you commit to purchasing a list.
4. FAQ
-
Can I reuse lists I've built? Yes, absolutely! Once you've built and purchased a list using the List Builder, it's saved to your account. You can easily reuse it for future campaigns by selecting the "Select a previous list" option on the "Mailing List" step when creating a new campaign.
-
Are the contacts in the generated lists verified? Yes. The contacts provided by the List Builder are aggregated from various reliable sources and then rigorously run through PostGrid's robust address verification system. This ensures that the mailing addresses are accurate and deliverable, minimizing undeliverable mail and maximizing the effectiveness of your campaigns.
